Creating And Placing Crowns In One Visit

When a tooth sustains an injury or develops severe tooth decay, you may need a crown to avoid complications and restore the tooth. In the past, this meant multiple visits to the dentist. But now, we can offer custom crowns, inlays, and onlays in one visit. In today’s blog, your Omaha, NE, dentist talks about CEREC restorations.

When You Need Crowns, Inlays, and Onlays

When does a tooth need repair? When one develops tooth decay too severe for a filling, or if one is damaged or misshapen, then we may need to place a restoration to repair it or improve bite function/chewing function. For more severe issues, we could cap the tooth with a dental crown, one that covers the tooth and offers a lifelike appearance and durable layer of protection. If you have issues too severe for a filling but not advanced enough that a full is needed, then we could offer partials. The inlay fits in between the cusps on top of the tooth, while the onlay fits over the cusps.

The CEREC System

Not only will we custom-make these ceramic restorations, we will do so and place then in the same visit. With the CEREC system, we use CAD/CAM technology to ensure one-visit placement. Our team will numb the tooth so you are comfortable as we remove structure to make room for the restoration. Next, our team takes detailed digital images and measurements, which we use to create a 3D model. We then upload the information into an onsite milling machine, which crafts your crown, inlay, or onlay from a solid block of ceramic. We shade this to blend with your smile and offer a lifelike appearance too!

Attaching Your Restoration

When the dental restoration is ready, we will check the fit and make sure final adjustments are not needed. We then attach the crown or partial with a powerful bonding agent, the same we use to secure dental bridges. Once in place, they can stay there for years to come and maintain a bright appearance. You must care for them as you would for natural teeth, that includes daily brushing and flossing habits, visits for checkups and cleanings, and eating a diet low in sugar.

If you have any questions about how our team will restore your tooth in only one visit, or if you have an aching or damaged one that needs attention, then contact our team today to learn more.
