Misalignment means your teeth are crooked, or that they crowd or overlap one another. Along with impacting your smile’s beauty, uneven teeth could also lead to trouble for your overall oral health. In today’s blog, your Omaha, NE, dentist will explain how we can correct uneven teeth without braces, instead using cosmetic Invisalign® and ClearCorrect® aligners.
The Health Risks of Uneven Teeth
How does having crooked or crowded teeth impact your smile’s health? First, the more uneven your smile the more difficult brushing and flossing your teeth will be. Soon, food particles could remain trapped between the teeth, broken down by bacteria in a process that creates plaque buildup and increases the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. For others, misalignment places strain on the jaw joints, and in the process boosts the chances of TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). To protect your oral health, and enjoy a more attractive smile, you need orthodontic care.
Crafting Your Aligners
We offer two different systems that both use clear aligners. Each set is custom-made for your special, and used to gently move the teeth into optimal positions. We begin by using digital technology to take a series of images, which we combine to create a 3D model. At a lab, these models and images will be used to design the aligners. Each set is created from a BPA-free acrylic material, one that is clear to limit the visibility of your orthodontics.
The Treatment Process
Each set will be worn for about 20 to 23 hours a day, over the course of about two weeks. After that, you move on the next in the series. The optimal amount of time the treatment takes will depend on the cause and extent of your misalignment, and whether you wear them as the dentist recommends. On average, teens need about 18 months and adults a year to see an even smile.
Removable Braces
A major benefit is the removable option. You don’t need to avoid certain foods, fearing they will become stuck in your orthodontics or damage them. Instead, you take out your aligners before a meal! Taking them out also makes brushing and flossing much easier, as you don’t need to work around braces.
