Did You Know We Have Two Teeth Whitening Options?

How do you feel about your smile’s appearance? If you wish you could obtain a brighter smile, especially before an upcoming Halloween party or holiday gathering, then you may benefit form cosmetic dental care. Your Omaha, NE, dentist has two different options to remove teeth stains and offer brighter, more attractive smiles.

Why Are My Teeth Stained?

There are two different forms of teeth stains, extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic stains form on the surface of our teeth and are the most common variety. These may be caused by sugary foods and drinks promoting plaque buildup, smoking or tobacco use, poor oral hygiene, and consumption of drinks with dark pigments, such as coffee, soda, red wine, and tea. Intrinsic stains form below the outer tooth enamel, and may be the result of fluorosis, tetracycline use at a young age, or injury to the teeth.

A Brighter Smile in Two Hours

Our in-office procedure easily addresses extrinsic staining and can be performed in as little as two hours. Treatment begins with the dentist applying a protective layer over your lips and gums. We then place a layer of bleaching gel onto the teeth and use a special light to activate the gel. The stains will be broken up and lifted in as little as one to two hours. You leave with a brighter smile, just in time for your party or event!

Our At-Home Trays and Gel

The trays and gel will address surface discoloration, as well as minor intrinsic staining in some cases. We begin by taking detailed impressions of your smile to craft a set of trays from a BPA-free acrylic. We then prescribe a special gel and send you home with both. At home, you will fill the trays with gel and wear them for about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your dentist’s recommendations. Total treatment time falls between a week and ten days and this system could potentially brighten your smile by several shades. If you have severe intrinsic discoloration that may not respond to teeth whitening at all, then we could always mask stains with dental bonding, porcelain veneers, or a combination of these two options.
