With Invisalign®, we offer our Omaha, NE, patients a clear alternative to metal braces. Do you have questions about the Invisalign® system? We’re looking at common questions our patients have asked about clear braces.
Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign®
Question: How do you create them?
Answer: We will need to take a detailed digital impression of your smile. At an Invisalign® lab, experts will use the impression we gather to create a series of aligners from a BPA-free plastic material. We will then provide you with your new aligners so you can begin the treatment process.
Question: How do they fix alignment?
Answer: Each day, patients wear a set of the aligners for between 20 and 23 hours. They wear them every day, usually upgrading to the next set about once every two weeks. Over the course of a year, they will reposition the teeth and correct misalignment. The exact timeframe will depend on the cause and extent of misalignment, as well as whether the patient wears the aligners as prescribed.
Question: Will they be comfortable?
Answer: Yes! Being custom-made means they fit comfortably and don’t cause the gum and cheek irritation often reported with metal orthodontics.
Question: Can I ever remove them during treatment?
Answer: You can take them out before meals, which means you don’t have to avoid certain foods or change your diet. Patients also remove them prior to brushing and flossing to make caring for their smiles easier. If you’re attending a special occasion, such as a graduation, you can take them out there as well. However, be sure you’re still wearing them daily for the hours the dentist prescribed.
